TMQ Blurb IV
Another great blurb from a column by one of my favorite sports columnists:
Why Isn’t the Pentagon Mosque on the Front Page?
There’s a small chance you have heard about a plan to build a mosque near (not “at”) Ground Zero in New York. The controversy is puzzling on many levels, most important, that this is America! Freedom must not be an empty concept. Freedom of...

Why LeBron Should Pick Miami
My one question to LeBron is this: how important is it to be the Man?
You want to win? You want a great owner and organization? You want to play in a big market? You want to play in a great city? You want a proven coach? You want to get paid? Then Miami is your town, the only city that can really offer you all those things in one neat package. The problem is this: Miami is in Wade County. Dwyane...

Kobe Bryant vs. Michael Jordan

Victor: Yeah, but was Michael Jordan ever tried for rape? Huh? Advantage Kobe.

Voting Lesson Learned
Shenanigans on election day are nothing new, but yesterday I had the pleasure of being the victim of such a shenanigan.
Yesterday was a California primary day. Being non-partisan, I was under the strong impression that I could walk into my polling center and receive a party-specific ballot upon request. My wife and I, with baby in tow, went to Hilltop Community Church to cast our votes, and I...

Responses to "Where's the Castor Oil?"
Target employee: Ok, you just head down to the end of the aisle, to the automotive section...
CVS employee: Hmm... we *used* to have it. What's the difference between castor oil and cod liver oil?
K-Mart employee: (silence) (we decided to quit asking while we were ahead)

Droid Eris Review
Now that the Droid Eris experiment has percolated for some time, I have reached some conclusions about the device. I realize that I am late to the party, but several folks have asked for my opinion over the past couple of months. Do with it what you will.
Pros:
Verizon is immeasurably better than AT&T.
Tethering - free, albeit slow
Multitasking (prior to iPhone OS 4.0)
Excellent...

Living in Detroit
Roger Goodell: With the second pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select Ndamukong Suh, Defensive Tackle from Nebraska.
Eileen: He doesn't look very excited. Why doesn't he look excited?
Me: Would you be excited to be moving to Detroit?
Eileen: ... no.

So Eileen is pregnant. Have we mentioned that? And her belly is growing. Well, it has grown… and grown… and I, the husband, love her and her growing belly more each day. Minnie is making things a bit uncomfortable for mommy, though, to the point where Eileen turned to me and said, “I should have…

If Bush Lied About WMDs, Then So Did All These...

“One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line.” - President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998 “If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction program.” -...

Genuine Fiscal Concern
“The government solution to a problem is usually as bad as the problem.” - Milton Friedman
The adage says, “You have to spend money to make money!” Indeed, sage words for folks in the business of making money. But when did the United States Government turn into a Wall Street firm? Over the past year, the White House has decided that spending buckets of money was the only...

Modern Civil War
We are fast approaching a dubious sesquicentennial: the beginning of the American Civil War. When this dawned on me, it occurred to me that we are fighting a whole new civil war in America - a Post-Modern Ideology War, if you will. Whether it be political, religious, environmental, or humanitarian, we have been swept up into the fight, carried by the media, the vocal minorities, the protestors,...

The Nursery Project Commences
themiglios:
Alex has been hard at work on the nursery since the holiday weekend. I find it amazing that not only is he the head contractor (and family painter, since I am banished from rooms with paint fumes during the pregnancy), training for a half-marathon/10k in March (not to mention the 5k he’s running at the end of January), continuing to work full-time, and taking care of me as my energy...

TMQ Blurb III
Another great blurb from a column by one of my favorite sports columnists:
Haiti Reminds Us What a Crisis Is:
The earthquake in Haiti is a calamity, far worse than the 1755 Lisbon earthquake that left such an imprint on Western thought. The best way to donate is through the Red Cross Web site; texting “Haiti” to 90999 donates $10 to the Red Cross. The Red Cross is honest, reputable...

I Finally Get It
I spent my afternoon watching the Jets luck their way to yet another win in these awful, horrible 2010 playoffs - one good game out of eight thus far, and do not tell me that Chargers debacle was any good - and I came to this realization: the Jets needed to get to this AFC Championship game, in this fashion to boot, to rekindle my hatred - one that had been dormant for several years - for this...
